Biography of Brigadier General (Retd) Prof. Dr. Md Bashidul Islam

Brigadier General (Retd) Prof. Dr. Md Bashidul Islam, a distinguished physician, educator, and humanitarian, is the Founder and Chairman of the Caregivers Institute of Bangladesh (CIB), a leading caregiver training organization in the country. With an illustrious career spanning decades in the medical and military fields, his contributions to healthcare, education, and social welfare are profound and far-reaching.

Born in Sirajgonj, Pabna, in 1962, Brig. Gen. (Retd) Dr. Bashidul Islam graduated with an MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College in 1987. He began his career in 1988 by joining the Bangladesh Army Medical Corps, where he demonstrated exemplary dedication and expertise. Throughout his military tenure, he served in diverse capacities, including as Director of Medical Services (DMS) in the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Border Guard, and as Senior Medical Officer (SMO) in the Bangladesh Air Force at Base Kurmitola in 2010.

In addition to his national service, he contributed significantly to international missions. From 1993 to 1996, he participated in the reconstruction of Kuwait (OKP-5) following the Gulf War. Later, in 2012, he served in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL), further showcasing his commitment to global humanitarian efforts.

Before retiring from the Bangladesh Army in 2019, Brig. Gen. (Retd) Dr. Bashidul Islam held the prestigious position of Professor and Head of the Department of Community Medicine at Armed Forces Medical College, Dhaka. Post-retirement, he continued his dedication to healthcare and education by serving as the Hospital Director of Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College in Uttara, Dhaka.

Driven by a passion for philanthropy, he established the CIB Foundation to support various social welfare initiatives. Under this foundation’s umbrella, several entities, including CIB Manab Kollan Songstha (CMaKS), Mohammadia Gen Store, Mohammadia Model Pharmacy, and five branches of caregiver training institutes, are actively operating across Bangladesh. These initiatives aim to improve the lives of countless individuals through training, employment, and support services.

In addition to his work with the CIB Foundation, Brig. Gen. (Retd) Dr. Bashidul Islam serves as the President of the Central Association for Persons with Disabilities (CAPD), advocating for the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities.

On the personal front, he is blessed with a loving family, including two daughters, Dr. Morium Moomtaj and Dr. Salma Tasneem, and a son, Abdullah Al Awal. His life’s journey reflects a profound commitment to service, leadership, and compassion, leaving a lasting legacy in the fields of medicine, education, and humanitarianism.
